These are just a few of the local residents on our property.

(As always, click on the picture to get a larger picture that you can see better)

Wes examines a 4-winged insect that looks like a giant mosquito. There were 2-winged varieties and 4-winged varieties, and they fought to the death at our first campsite

'Ferdinand the Bull' frequently hangs out just next to the fence at the back of our homesite. He's in control of all the cows.

This was a good-sized king snake. We'd like to import more king snakes, since they kill the rattlesnakes.

This striped racer hangs out near Old Camp, and chased a lizard through the middle of camp one day.

These two does hang out in the meadow by South Camp and watch us work every weekend.

Rob spotted this tarantula hawk battling this funnel spider just outside our bathroom at Old Camp

This tarantula 'greeted' us one night when we got to Old Camp

Looking at our North American mammel book, we thought this was a vole. But the road builders told us it was a wood rat. It hangs out in the bushes behind the tents at Old Camp

This rattlesnake surprised us on our hike one day. It was a large, beautiful rattler. We've seen 5 rattlers, and killed 3 that were on our homesite.

This cottontail sat quietly watching us on our hike until we were very close

While swimming at Kaweah River in Sequoia, we were joined by this bat flying around under the bridge, catching spiders and other insects.
