We meet with the architect

04/15/05 -04/17/05

Another glorious weekend. We finally met with the architect and the road guy, who is going to also build the house pad. Although we originally thought we would have to dig the basement a little, and move the dirt to fill up to the level of the rocks, it turns out that we will have to fill it all. And it's a catch-22. We can't fill until we have the foundation dug. So, we'll just have to wait it out. We did get a chance to finalize the floor plans, though. And Rob had a chance to work on the tree house.

(As always, click on the picture to get a larger picture that you can see better)

Loretta finally gets a chance to paint something besides new construction.

The moon between the branches.

Rob decides to clear out a few rocks at Bear Skull crossing, so he can take the ATV through. Here, he moves a huge rock. (slideshow)

Rob rides through his new trail across Bear Skull Crossing. A little later in the day, Loretta decided to try it, the ATV slid down sideways, over Loretta's foot, and she got stuck (no pictures, though... she was too busy trying to get out)

Rob moves another rock further down the trail.

This is one of our favorite insects. It's either a 'two-wing' or a 'four-wing'. When we first started camping at Old Camp, these insects had battles nightly.

Rob continues to work on the treehouse. Here, he installs the floor (slideshow)

More new flowers out. This appears to be a 'Common Madia', also known as a Foothill Daisy.

Miniature lupine abound.

These Golden Brodiaea were our favorites last year.

Here's a Blue Dick that hasn't quite opened up yet.(slideshow)

We don't know what this is. The lower part has long, skinny leaves that spread out much like a lily. Then there is this very tall stalk that appears to have a bud on the top. This is near our homesite, and we're going to watch for it to bloom so we can identify it.

Another plant that we haven't identified yet - with teeny yellow flowers.

The view at the home site has changed again. Now there are Fiesta Flowers and Common Madia filling the meadow. (slideshow)

The buckeye tree at the homesite is filled with blooms that are just about ready to open (slideshow)

And Loretta has finally started her herb garden. She brought a small root of comfrey all the way from Whittier and planted it the last trip. Look how much it has grown in just 2 weeks!

We aren't quite sure what this is. It might be a Rock Phacelia, but we aren't sure. (slideshow)

We think these are Valley Tassels, also called White Owl's Clover.

Looking north up the valley from the homesite at sunset. Blossom Peak is on the right.

Looking down at the meadow from the homesite. This is such a pretty view, and one of the reasons we picked this spot.

Rob's ready to take off to hunt some dove for dinner(slideshow)

This is Grass Nut, a cousin of Golden Brodaeia. They look almost the same except for the color

Another plant that we have no idea what it is. These beautiful heather-like flowers are right next to the entrance of our property. They are about a foot tall.(slideshow)

And, with all this talk of beautiful flowers, Rob picks a bouquet for Loretta (slideshow)
