Building the Decks

August 6, 2004 - August 9, 2004

This weekend was long and hard! Three days of grueling work,

We left on Thursday night and started work on Friday morning. There had been significant progress made on the roads, and (thankfully) an access road to South Camp had been bulldozed in. In addition, our 4-wheel drive had now been fixed, so we felt more comfortable driving to South Camp.

Work started on Friday morning around 7am, and continued until it got dark. On Saturday, we started around 8am, and worked until 6 or so. But on Sunday, Loretta had run out of steam. So we started around 9am, and quit around 4pm. As you can see, we still managed to get a lot done.

(As always, click on the picture to get a larger picture that you can see better)

South Camp at the beginning of the weekend

Rob built the patio in 8x8 frames, stacked on top of each other, while Loretta painted

It's a war! Loretta was already covered in paint anyway.

Rob took over the painting.

1/2 of the patio is up after much hard work

Frames are clamped together and then screwed together

Done! See how high the front is?

We bought the planks last weekend, thinking we'd have time (ha!)

Starting to lay out planks for painting (but we didn't have time)

So, the planks warped. Check out the one on the far left and the far right!

But we prevailed! And the bathroom deck has all the planks screwed tightly in place

Finally, we sprayed tinted sealer on all the planks - cedartone.

We'll be adding some additional pictures to this page to show the progress of the road.
