Building the road was an awesome experience!
This set of photos shows just the first week's worth of work... called 'pioneering' the road. Basically, that entails 'just' cutting through top layers, making it relatively level (note the operative word 'relatively'), crossing the ravine (which entails cutting the side down and building the bottom up), removing boulders the size of our Blazer, and removing both the buckbrush and the mighty oaks that must come down.
Our road maker has worked hard to design a road that keeps as many trees and natural features as possible. Even so, some of our beautiful oaks needed to be removed - as you'll see in some of the photos.
(As always, click on the photo for a larger size).
