Camp Repairs

01-13-2006

We were almost afraid to go up to see what kind of damage the storms had wreaked on our camp and road. We were right.

It was a beautiful weekend, but we spent almost the entire time repairing things. Well, we did get a few hikes in to admire the scenery.

Everything is starting to turn green now. The gopher tunnels have filled with water and the water then pours out of the hillside, making little waterfalls all over the place.

The ground is completely saturated, and oozing water all over. We had no trouble on the road coming in, but as you'll see, the mud made getting out a challenge again.

(As always, click on the picture to get a larger picture that you can see better)

We got into camp late at night and the full moon was just coming up. (slideshow)

Damage from last week, as Rob was trying to get out of camp. As he came around the corner, the truck slid into the meadow. Even with the 4-wheel drive, it was quite a challenge getting out. We have no pictures of the actual efforts, because Loretta was pretty much in a state of shock, wondering what we would do if the truck really was stuck. (slideshow)

In the morning, we drove up to the homesite. To our dismay, the wind had taken down the canopy over the well. None of our other canopies had a problem, so we were really surprised. Obviously, the wind on our 'mesa' can be quite strong.(slideshow)

Obviously, a huge volume of water had poured from the skies in a short time. 'Ginormous' (gigantic, enormous) ruts appeared everywhere. (slideshow)

But with the beautiful sunshine and gorgeous blue skies, we can't be kept down for long. (slideshow)

'We' work (that's an Imperical 'we', meaning Rob works, and Loretta takes pictures) at trying to repair the bent and broken poles on the wellsite canopy. (slideshow)

It's so wonderful to see all the greenery popping up all over. Everywhere you look, you see evidence of spring and the results of the rain. (slideshow)

With all that water, mushrooms are starting to pop up all over, too.

As we inspect the property, we find a tree that has taken down a fence. We have to fix it, or the cattle will get in again.

Once again, the Blazer gets stuck... almost. But now that we know how bad it can be, Rob's more careful, and gets out safely.

You got a preview of Rob's toolshed from our last trip, and he continues to add to it.

Another storm coming in provides dramatic views.

Once again, the road by the ravine has been ravaged. (slideshow)

Early in the morning, before Loretta woke up, Rob built a workbench for his tractor shed, so he could have a close place to put his tools. (slideshow)

Finally, Rob spent some time welding hooks everywhere, so he has a place to fasten the chains when he's using the tractor to pull, push, hoist, or carry.
