Chain Saw Loretta
03-31-2006

Typical spring weather this weekend. It was sunny, and warm enough for short-sleeves, then it would be cloudy, overcast and rain.

Rob worked on the tractor again, and Loretta helped by painting and handing tools to Rob (you'll see why, later). But we still had time to hike and look at how beautiful this property is. We just never get tired of it.

(As always, click on the picture to get a larger picture that you can see better)

Last week, Rob checked the fit of the parts for the backhoe sub-frame. As he expected, they needed some adjustment, so he took them home for modification. (slideshow)

Remember that Loretta vowed to fix those ruts in the meadow? Here, they're mostly filled in now. Time will cover them over with grass, and you won't be able to tell they were ever there.

As you can see, sun gave way to rain. But it was a gentle rain, and we didn't mind it at all.

Moss is growing everywhere because of the rain. (slideshow)

The rain has also brought out all kinds of mushrooms and tree fungus. (slideshow)

Remember a month ago when Rob worked on the South Rocks culvert area, and dug a huge hole? Well, since we didn't get the culvert cleaned out, this storm just filled it back up again. (slideshow)

Remember the traps from last time? Well, this is why. Every time we come up here, Rob has to clean out a nest from the engine block. (slideshow)

Speaking of nests, we don't know what kind of next this is, but it's absolutely huge! (slideshow)

In the intro paragraph I promised you'd see why Loretta has to hand tools to Rob. Here's your opportunity. It sure would be easier if we could put the tractor up on some kind of ramps. (slideshow)

Loretta's just dying to get the place cleaned up. She wants to tackle the fallen logs. She bought a small battery-operated pruner that's like a mini chain saw, and it does fine with small branches. But she needs something bigger to tackle the logs. (slideshow)

Now that the logs are cut up, Loretta stacks them, and tackles the 'kindling' pile behind the firepit.(slideshow)

Picture perfect - our favorite time of year. (slideshow)

We go for a hike before breakfast.

These large rocks look so plain, but look at what's inside. This rock is about 3 feet in diameter.

Our lawn chairs sit in the middle of the green, under the tree, looking out over our camp meadow.

Loretta paints the backhoe brackets, so they can be installed next trip. (slideshow)

We still find the time to hike. Loretta and Coco hike down the ravine to check out the water.
