Fire and Rain

10/14/05 - 10/16/05

As always, we worked our butts off this weekend.

We had our first significant rain on Saturday night, although it wasn't enough for water to flow.

Because of the rain, we were able to light a fire in our firepit. That was really nice.

Rob got a chance to work on the tractor, adding all his 'assessories'. He noticed a decal that said to be sure to tighten the 'main pin bolt' after initial break-in. That started a 2 hour session of finding and tightening every single bolt on the tractor, loader, and backhoe. Thank goodness we did that. Several were extremely loose.

Our game camera also captured quite a few pictures! We moved it anyway, hoping for even more.... and managed to move it right next to a hornet's nest. Rob got stung 6 times while trying to get the camera mounted and activated.

(As always, click on the picture to get a larger picture that you can see better)

Rob and Loretta went for a hunt in the wee hours of the morning.. just as it was starting to turn light. It was too dark for most pictures, but this creek picture turned out very well. It was chilly, but not biting.

There are a couple of areas of brambles that we walk through to the creek. (in the summer, it's a 'river'; in the fall and winter, it's a 'creek') (slideshow)

We had quite a time with the backhoe the last time we tried to hook it up, because the hydraulics in the legs had 'leaked', and we couldn't get the backhoe into position. So Rob built two stands to hold the backhoe in position. (we still don't have our own backhoe)

Rob went to use his grinder, and found that our 'friends' had thoroughly chewed the wire. We have traps in the tool shed, but these guys are really smart and have avoided our traps so far.

At sunset, our camp meadow turns almost red.

Here comes the rain.

The rain has collected in the awning. We decide to take it down.

The road after the rain. Some spots are already dry.

Rob prunes a tree branch that's sticking almost all the way into Wes's canopy.
