Three Rivers Photos
First Pictures

January 18, 2004

This is our first trip to Three Rivers that we took pictures of our property.

In case you haven't heard the story, Rob and I first saw Three Rivers in November 2003 on the way back from our vacation to Dunsmuir, Ca. We fell in love with the town, and started looking at the Internet for houses on sale. At Xmas, we met with a realtor, who showed us 5 properties. On the way, we saw some land for sale and asked about it. We walked on one property (just north of the place we bought), but didn't have time to cross the ravine to see the property we ultimately purchased.

But the other property seemed to prey on our minds, and on New Year's Day, we drove up to Three Rivers again, met with the realtor a second time, and walked the more interesting property. We fell in love with it, and Rob travelled to Three Rivers again the following week with a contractor friend. We wanted to find out if we were totally crazy to think we could cross the ravine. When he confirmed we could definitely cross the ravine, we were sold. While traipsing through the property, Rob found the perfect spot for our house, and on January 18, we went up again and this time took pictures of 'our' property (as we had now come to think of it).

Rob points out the homesite rocks from the meadow below.

We walk along the north side of the ravine. This particular spot later became our 'old camp', and it looks down on what is 'Ravine Road' today.

The 'top' (northeast) corner of our property is at the 'top' of the ravine. The ravine actually goes up further, but this is the top as far as our property is concerned. We found a bear skull on some rocks close by, so this crossing has become known as 'bear skull crossing'

View of the Homesite on TuffBluff Meadow from the Northeast corner (almost). This picture was taken as we climbed up the game trail onto the meadow coming from bear crossing. We always went that way because we had not yet crossed the ravine in other places. We always took the (now) East trail up to that corner and crossed at the easiest place and it put us in the corner of the homesite meadow along the East Fence, looking West/South to the rock bluff (TuffBluff).

Blossom Peak to the north, viewed from the homesite rocks.

The rancher to the east runs cattle. These cows stop and check out Loretta taking their picture.

The south meadow

Southernmost rocks. These rocks are actually on our property, even though they are past the fence.

Beautiful manzanitas dot the countryside
