Three Rivers Photos
Thanksgiving 2005

11/18/05 - 11/27/05

A whole, glorious week in Three Rivers!

After much thought about where to spend our anniversary week, we decided to go up to Three Rivers for the whole week. The weather was mostly fantastic, sunny and highs in the low 70's... until about Friday, when it rained/drizzled on and off, and Saturday, when the high was 46°.

Rob got lots of work done on the road with our new backhoe, and it looks almost like new. Loretta worked hard on the road, too, and planted a deer food plot.

Our friends, Kathy and Matt came up for the weekend after Thanksgiving, and we stopped working, to hike and show them around the place. It was great fun!

(As always, click on the picture to get a larger picture that you can see better)

Chilly early mornings with frost in the meadow.

Rob installs his new Top 'N Tilt. Notice the scale that he made for it so he doesn't have to guess.

First thing, Rob graded a food plot ... no, not for human food - for deer food. (slideshow)

Then he got to work on the road. Recent rains had gouged large ruts, eroded the dirt, and toppled some of the smaller (24-30 inches and less) rocks into the ravine. This is a picture of the 'good' side... it has much larger rocks, and it held. You can't really tell from this picture, but it's about 20 feet down to the bottom.

First, he dug the gutters out better. (slideshow)

Then he got new rocks. It would have been great if he could have just reached down into the ravine to get the rocks that fell down, but he had to harvest them elsewhere. (slideshow)

My favorite picture - Rancher Rob.

Dumping the rocks first, at the edge of the road. (slideshow)

Then he gets a whole lot of dirt to fill it in. (slideshow)

Loretta gets to help, too. Her legs are barely long enough to reach the clutch and brake. (slideshow)

Finally, he's done.

Meanwhile, in the middle of all this, Loretta runs out of gas in the ATV and has to be towed back to camp. (Notice the shovel in the rifle scabbard)

Rob just can't get enough tractoring. Now he decided to grade another pad at the wellsite. (slideshow)

Coco has a great ol' time, as usual, running up and down the hills and rocks. But she seems to be having a little trouble here, trying to figure out how to get down.

Our friends Kathy and Matt come to visit us near the end of the week. As you can see, it's pretty brisk in the morning.

This is the first tarantula we've seen in a long time.

Isn't this a great fungus? They grow on dead and dying trees. This one is huge.

And now for some scenery pictures. (slideshow)

And to end the day, some beautiful sunsets. (slideshow)
