Tractor Maintenance

10/21/05 - 10/23/05

This weekend was the weekend to try to get the maintenance done on the tractor. We can't tell how many hours it's been used, because the hour meter doesn't work (along with the headlights, tailights, gas gauge, and tachometer. But we figure it's about time. The owner's manual says 100 hours, but a tractor forum that Rob reads says 50 hours. We think we have about that many hours.

Rob's son, Matt, and a friend, Brett, came up for the weekend, too.

It's chilly in the morning and evening, but fairly nice during the day.

(As always, click on the picture to get a larger picture that you can see better)

Rob takes his turn greasing the tractor.

Rob tries to see what might be wrong with the headlights. They worked fine when the tractor was taken off the truck, but the next day stopped working.

Hmm.... now the tractor won't start, either.

Rob starts tracing the electrical.

Failing to find the problem, he just hotwires the tractor (and no, he says he's never hotwired a vehicle before.

The air filter inlet on the tractor didn't have a cap, and no store-bought cap seemed to fit, so Rob modified one to fit....(slideshow)

The tractor makes quick work out of clearing brush from the playground. It would have taken a couple of hours, at least, to do it manually.(slideshow)

Brett and Rob discuss where something called the 'sediment bowl' might be.
