Wild Boars

November 12 - November 13, 2004

What an exciting weekend this was!

First of all, there had been more rain, and the road experienced quite a bit of erosion. (The road guy says "well, it IS a dirt road").

Secondly, due to the rain the mushrooms popped up all over - many, many different kinds.

One evening, we sat totally in the dark on our patio. Suddenly, the solar motion sensor lights went on in the meadow, and we dimly saw the hindquarters of an animal on the trail going up to South Rocks. The next day, Rob adjusted the lights so we could get a better view - but they worked!

On Friday, we heard bulldozers, so on Saturday, we drove around, trying to find out where they were. As we were driving on South Fork road, Rob suddenly exclaimed excitedly "Boars!" Sure enough, there were two VERY large wild Russian boars in a clearing in the brush near the river. The next day, we hikedfrom our property down to the river, through the most hideous brush, and exited just about where the clearing was. You could see the huge tunnels they had made in the brush.

(As always, click on the picture to get a larger picture that you can see better)

One of the cracks in the road.

The moss is now a bright green instead of brown, and it has very interesting textures.

Coco discovered the cows! She discovered that when she approaches them, they trot away. But when she approached the large black bull, she found he turned and confronted her!

The grass is pushing up everywhere. This grass actually broke through the crust of the compacted road!

Hummingbird and feeder. There were actually 2 males fighting overt he feeder. The smaller one was dive-bombing the larger one and hitting him in mid-air.

Rob adjusts the motion sensor lights in the meadow.

Rob added more rails to the decks and here, Loretta paints them

Rob builds ladders for the tree fort he's going to build (he says it's for Wes, but let's not kid anyone)

By the river

Huge burl on an oak tree. This was probably 3 feet in diameter!

Remember the cupboard Rob was fixing a couple of weeks ago? Loretta's dad had made it as a headboard for Loretta's son. And Rob was modifying it to be a kitchen cupboard. Well, it's finished now.
